Donald Trump supporters stormed the House of Congress in Washington following a speech by the President earlier. Video footage has begun emerging on social media of protestors clashing with police as they stand guard outside of Congress. Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi are among those who have been rushed out of the building in astonishing scenes from the US capital.

Video on social media show protestors inside the Capitol Building.

Footage shows Trump supporters running amok, with other images showing armed police in the building.

There are unconfirmed reports of gunfire while those inside Capitol Building have been told to put on gas masks.

This comes after President Trump called on Mike Pence to nullify the election and block Mr Biden’s certification.

However, Mr Pence has defied this pressure from the President and intends to validate the election in a joint session of Congress.

In a letter to Congress, he said: “My oath to support and defend the constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not.”

Hundreds of protestors came together to hear President Trump’s speech on Wednesday as he refused to concede to Joe Biden.

DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser held a press conference announcing in person the impending curfew.

Chief of the Metropolitan police Robert Contee began the press conference by addressing the rules of the curfew.

He said: “If you are found to be in violation of the curfew, police will be required to take action.

“Again, I want to reiterate and want to be clear that people should abide by the curfew the mayor has set in place or people will be subject to arrest.

“Lastly, I know many of you are familiar with the Metropolitan police, understand that there is no better agency in the country to handle first amendment events.”
