THIS Morning’s Ruth Langsford and Alison Hammond had to appear live on air today after it was revealed the former Big Brother star is replacing her.
In an exchange branded “awkward” by viewers, the pair both took part in a live link-up with Loose Women.
Ruth opened the link saying: “Hi Phillip” but didn’t mention Alison – who stood alongside her co-star silently waving.
The moment came after it was revealed that Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes are being replaced on the show’s Friday edition by Alison and Dermot O’Leary.
Ruth was hosting Loose Women today, while Alison had been drafted in to host This Morning while Holly Willoughby had a day off.
Some said the 60-year-old telly veteran directed her remarks at Phillip Schofield instead of the newcomer.
One viewer tweeted: “Ruth speaking to Phil and ignoring Alison on this morning. Awkward.”
Another wrote: “Alison waving to Ruth. Awkward.”
A third said: “Slightly awkward that Alison is presenting #ThisMorning today and then Ruth pops up on loose women.”
One other shared a picture of Gavin and Stacey’s Pam yelling: “It’s all the drama, Mick. I just love it!”
They compared it to the scenes playing out on This Morning, writing: “ITV watching Ruth speak to Alison…”
Many fans wrote about how much they enjoyed the former Big Brother star, 45, appearing on the show today – but wished for Ruth to stay on.
One tweeted: “I like Alison she should have had her own show a long time ago but getting rid of Eamonn and Ruth is a disgrace.”
The Sun reported in September that Eamonn and Ruth were fearing the axe from This Morning amid a diversity drive at ITV.

In an interview published in Notebook before news of ITV’s shake-up broke, Ruth told how she grafted to get the role that she’s had for the last 14 years.
She said: “We’ve put the work in. We didn’t do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We’ve come up through the ranks.
