Matthew Perry’s new in-laws are “ecstatic” he has popped the question to girlfriend Molly Hurwitz – after asking her father for her hand in marriage, The Sun can exclusively reveal.
The Friends star, who has been dating the literary agent for more than two years, revealed he had proposed to the 29-year-old after they reunited following a breakup.
Molly, who grew up in New York, has already introduced Matthew to her mother, Amy, who recently moved to the West Coast to be closer to her daughter, and her father Larry, who lives in Connecticut.
Quizzed if the actor asked her dad for her hand in marriage, a family source told The Sun: “He did, it was very sweet and traditional, everything a father would have wanted.
“Her mother has met him and spent time with him, and so has Larry, they are both over the moon.”
A second source said: “They are very well-suited and very happy together, we couldn’t be more pleased, we’re ecstatic.”
The source said the rest of the family “hope to meet him soon” and have been congratulating the pair, although they are keeping mum on where and when Matthew asked her to be his wife.
“I’ve spoken to him many times on the phone, but in the age of COVID it’s hard to meet anybody at the moment,” they said.
The source added: “They have been dating over two years. As long as she’s happy, we’re happy.”
Asked if the family are a fan of the sitcom Friends, they said: “I’m not much of a TV watcher, but I knew who he was.”
The insider was coy when asked if the pair now live together, simply saying: “They are together now.”
The couple briefly split earlier this year and Matthew jumped back on to exclusive dating app Raya, but they later rekindled their romance and Matthew felt it was the right time to propose.
“I decided to get engaged,” he told People this week.
“Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time.”
The Sun exclusively revealed their relationship in December, as the pair enjoyed a romantic Christmas together, and it was revealed later they had been dating since 2018.
Molly appeared to confirm the secret romance on social media as she spent Christmas at his swanky LA penthouse.
She posted about her “boyfriend” on Instagram alongside a photograph apparently taken at his $35 million home in Century City.
Molly wrote: “According to my parents’ custody agreement, my mother was not allowed to have a Christmas tree…
“Fortunately, there’s no such agreement for a daughter’s boyfriend, so Hurwitz gets a treeeeeeee!!!”
On Valentine’s Day this year, she then confirmed that they had actually been together much longer than first thought, sharing a sweet message alongside a snap of the star.
“Second year being my Valentine, but his first as an Instagram influencer,” she wrote after the Friends actor joined the photo-sharing platform. “HVD to my favorite.”
Before dating Molly, the star was in a six-year relationship with actress Lizzy Caplan. The couple broke up in 2012.
Sources previously revealed Molly has been a “huge support” to the 51-year-old, who was believed to have been single for years amid his public battle with drugs and alcohol.
An insider revealed: “She has a very quirky sense of humor and they hit it off immediately.
“Molly is not interested in fame and she rarely parties, she’s been great for Matthew.”
The newly-engaged couple will most likely be moving into Matthew’s new $6million lavish home in Los Angeles, complete with a vegetable garden, training pool and hot tub.
Matthew snapped up the Pacific Palisades residence after putting his two other residences in Century City and Malibu on the market for a combined total of $42 million.
