Jose Mourinho may find himself without a job by Christmas if he can’t turn things around at Tottenham, talkSPORT has been told.
It may be far too early to judge after just one game, but Spurs’ opening weekend defeat at home to Everton was not the start to the season fans would have hoped for.
While the north London side ended last season strongly, they couldn’t have conjured a much worse performance to kick off the 2020/21 campaign, as Mourinho’s players look tired and lacked a spark.
It also did little to shift the spotlight away from the boss, with doubts creeping in over Jose’s ability to do what he was brought in to do – guide Tottenham to trophies.
Mourinho is one of the most decorated managers ever, and he’s widely considered one of the greatest coaches in football history, but there’s little doubt the shine of his once glittering career has begun to dull.
Tottenham ended last season sixth in the Premier League, as they missed out on Champions League football and again came away trophyless.

And talkSPORT host Darren Gough believes Mourinho could be given the boot by Tottenham in the coming months unless there is a drastic turnaround at White Hart Lane.
The signing of Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid is expected to have that catalytic effect Spurs need but, when discussing the deal on Drivetime with Adrian Durham, Goughie insisted the Welshman does not solve all of Spurs’ problems.
“Jose Mourinho does have the pedigree, but those Champions Leagues and titles seem a long time ago,” said Durham.
“They did happen, they were real, but they were a long time ago.
“I’m waiting for him to prove himself, because he did look a little bit outdated at United and they haven’t started the season well at Spurs, although they ended the last season well.
“He’s still got a little bit to prove in terms of getting back to where he was, so let’s see if he does that.
“To bag him off and say he hasn’t done anything since 2013, that’s just wrong.”
“But Ade, if he doesn’t get it together at Spurs, let’s be honest, he’ll be gone by Christmas,” added Goughie.
“I think he will get it right, I think he will get results and if Bale comes in he adds to it and it makes them better.
“It wont solve all their problems and it doesn’t mean they’ll be competing with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, but it helps them become a better team and gives them more opportunities to win a football match with Gareth Bale in the side.
“But, if he doesn’t get it right and Tottenham are out of it by Christmas, Mourinho won’t be there.
“Let’s be straight, he won’t be.”
