John Fury says ‘only a 6-foot-8 Floyd Mayweather’ could trouble Tyson Fury ahead of potential Anthony Joshua clash

“The heavy-legged, the slow-feeted, the one-two left hook and the technical boxing stuff, this man [Fury] will kill you stone-dead.

“It’s not enough for him, that conventional boxing style, one-two and a jab-left hook and a little bit of slow movement. This man will eat your life.”

There are a few hurdles to overcome before we get the elusive Fury vs Joshua contest. Fury has a contracted third fight with Deontay Wilder to deal with that has his WBC heavyweight title at stake.

Joshua must take on mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev and will do so on December 12. If both men get through those fights, there’s hope they can meet around May/June time next year.

Will all the titles be on the line? Eddie Hearn has suggested he would be willing to forfeit one of Joshua’s IBF, IBO, WBO or WBA (Super) titles and that meant they could make the Fury fight. With the winner of Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora set to be named the WBO mandatory, they may well have to.

While ‘Big John’ thinks no one can tough his son except an overgrown Floyd Mayweather, Sky pundit Johnny Nelson has claimed that Joshua is the more complete fighter and would get the victory.

Fury took exception to that idea when he appeared on the same talkSPORT show as Nelson and confronted the cruiserweight great.

Nelson said: “Listen, when you pick someone, it’s an opinion, it’s not personal.

“I personally say Anthony Joshua because if it’s a dog fight I’m going for Anthony Joshua.”

Fury shouted back: “A dog fight? When have you seen him in a dog fight and come out on top?”

Nelson said: “It’s about opinion. Dog fight I’m saying AJ, technically [it’s Fury] every day of the week.

“It’s about the game plan on the day of the fight, this is not a personal attack, this is just an opinion.”

Fury interrupted once more: “I respect everybody’s opinion, but there’s got to be some merit.

“On what merit have you ever seen Anthony Joshua win a dog fight? Name one time.

“I’ve been in loads of them and always come out on top, he’s been in one and lost it. Joshua ain’t man enough for me.

“Have you ever seen a hot knife go through butter before? That’s what I will do that that bodybuilding plastic b*****d.”
