I’M A CELEBRITY’s Bev Callard has opened up about her secret heartache after her grandfather murdered another man in a hammer attack.
The Coronation Street actress claims her grandad Pliny Brook was acting in “self-defence” when he killed the man in 1970 with a strike to the head and buried his body under a pile of coal.
Bev, 63, was just 13 when her 65-year-old grandad killed illegal immigrant Paul Suchar after a row over money.
She explained: “The two men must have started rowing and then Paul Suchar attacked Grandad and beat him really badly.
“His shin was totally kicked in and he thought he was going to be killed. Grandad hit back and was really fighting for his life.
“In the mill workshop there was a hammer lying on a bench and in desperation Grandad pick it up and hit Paul Suchar across the head with it.
“The younger man fell to the floor and when after a few seconds he didn’t come round, Grandad realised he’d killed him.”
Pliny confessed to the killing two weeks after the murder and swiftly handed himself into cops.
The publicity around the story caused Bev to be shunned by pals at school.

Pliny died behind bars from septicaemia just a year after his conviction.
Bev says she threw herself “whole heartedly” into her “rebellious teenage years” after the incident.
