Floyd Mayweather has announced that he will fight Logan Paul this year.
The retired 50-0 boxing legend will meet the 0-1 YouTuber, who lost his pro debut to fellow internet sensation KSI in 2019, in an exhibition bout.
Mayweather announced his retirement from top-level boxing in 2015.
He returned to the ring to face UFC star Conor McGregor two years later, to push his career record to 50-0.
In 2018, the American travelled to Tokyo for an exhibition bout with kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.
In the aftermath of that easy win, Floyd said he’d be open for further exhibitions.
Rumours swirled on social media two months ago suggesting a bout with Logan was a ‘done deal’, however it was then reported that Floyd had been approached about the exhibition, but was leaning towards a ‘no’.
Now, he’s confirmed it’s actually real.
Floyd Mayweather v Logan Paul: Date and start time
Mayweather and Paul will face off in an exhibition bout on Saturday, February 20.
The location has not been confirmed as of yet and so start times will follow.
The undercard, likely to include several more exhibition fights, will also be confirmed at a later date.
Mayweather posted a brief video graphic for the fight to his Instagram page.
His caption states: “Super Exhibition Feb. 20, 2021 !!!! Early Bird Special On Sale NOW!!!! Fanmio. More Details Soon. Link in BIO.”
The link in his Instagram bio takes you to the Fanmio website – who will seemingly be staging the PPV.
Their description of the event is: “Undefeated, 12-time, five division boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather at 50-0 will take on social media sensation Logan Paul in a special exhibition boxing match that is expected to make history.
“This is your chance to watch this must-see event live exclusively on Fanmio PPV, Saturday February 20, 2021.”
The fight was priced at $24.99 for early buyers, but increased to $59.99 on December 29th and will increase again to $79.99 on February 11th.
Jake Paul thinks brother Logan Paul is ‘f*****’ against Floyd Mayweather and their fight is ‘bad for the sport’
Floyd Mayweather v Logan Paul: What has been said?
One of the Mayweather’s former opponents, Victor Ortiz, reckons Paul will be a tougher opponent for than McGregor was.
“Conor couldn’t do nothing,” Ortiz said. “I don’t mean to speak bad. Conor’s a heck of a UFC fighter in the octagon, but he has no business in a ring, as opposed to someone like Logan – Logan learned in a ring.
“So his stuff is all standup. Everything about Logan is boxing, angles, moving, so it’s two different worlds.
“I couldn’t tell you what someone like Logan or myself could do in an octagon, but stick to what you know. And Logan, he knows boxing right now.
“I’ve talked to him about Floyd a few times. I give him the simple things: ‘Floyd is Floyd, but you’re unstoppable. You’re on another level.’
“I strongly believe Floyd will have trouble. Logan can box, and he has power, reach speed, and he can move now.”
