Derbyshire fire: Residents LOCK themselves in as blaze ravages Ravensdale Junior School | UK | News

Derbyshire police announced: “Officers are currently working with the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service at a fire at the Ravensdale Junior School in Mickleover.

“Local residents are requested to stay within their homes and ensure all doors and windows are closed.”

This comes after firefighters spent most of Saturday tackling another large fire at a second Derby school.

The blaze broke out at St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Broadway, Darley Abbey, in the early hours of the morning.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out shortly before 5.30am.

Surrounding roads were closed and police have been asking people to avoid the area.

A tweet from the fire service said: “Local road closures are in place on Broadway and Duffield Road while emergency services continue to deal with the fire at St Mary’s School Broadway #DarleyAbbey. Please avoid the area & keep windows & doors closed.”

News of a second school fire in the space of one weekend has worried local residents.

One tweeted: “Really sad to read this. Surely two primary schools in one weekend can’t be a coincidence? Thinking of all those affected.”
